The BioFrontiers Sequencing Facility
The Facility
The BioFrontiers Next-Gen Sequencing Facility provides Illumina sequencing services to both CU researchers, as well as to researchers at other institutions and industry. The facility currently houses three Illumina sequencers, a NextSeq 500 for large projects and two MiSeqs for smaller-scale sequencing projects. In addition the facility provides library construction services and instrumentation including quality control assays. We also provide consultation services for project design to help you get the most out of your sequencing projects. It is our goal to quickly and effectively offer these new technologies to the science community to push research to the next level of genetic investigation.
The Illumina system uses Solexa sequencing technology and novel reversible terminator chemistry. The Illumina sequencing platforms generate 120 gigabases of sequence data per run (NextSeq 500) or up to 15Gb per run (MiSeq), using a massively parallel sequencing approach. At the facility, we can help you determine the best option for each project, taking into consideration the research aims, timeline and research budget. Illumina maintains a website with the most up-to-date citations about the experiments being done with these instruments, and we’re always happy to discuss with you what’s new and what’s available at our Core.

Acknowledgements and Authorship Guidelines
Please remember to acknowledge the BioFrontiers Next-Gen Sequencing core facility in the publication of any data produced by the facility. We encourage you to follow the guidelines published by the Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities (ABRF) for consideration of any facility staff member as an author. Additionally, we ask that you let us know of any publications involving the Facility so that we may keep track, citations and publications demonstrate the usefulness of the Facility as a research resource and aid in obtaining further funding.
Example acknowledgement:
We thank the BioFrontiers Institute Next-Gen Sequencing Core Facility, which performed the Illumina sequencing and library construction.
Email List:
The BioFrontiers Next-Gen Facility maintains a Google groups list (biof-gg-ngs) to notify people of facility updates, queues, seminars, and workshops. If you’d like to be included on this list send an email to biof-ngs@colorado.edu.
